David Marcus was born in Omaha Nebraska and grew up in the state capital of Lincoln. His childhood was spent watching his mother ride until at the age of 7 he had his first riding lesson and since then Marcus hasn't looked back. Although he competed in both three-day-eventing and show jumping as a child it was the discipline of dressage that permanently captivated him.

In 1996 to further his dressage career Marcus headed north of the border to train with 7-time Olympian and bronze medalist Cindy Ishoy and her husband Neil with the goal to compete on the North American Young Rider Championship Team for his Nebraska region. Marcus certainly got his wish—he represented Region 4 five times on two different horses. Winning both silver and bronze medals as well as the Captain Andrew B. De Szinay sportsmanship award. Marcus was also a key member of the gold medal winning team at the 2001 ACORD team challenge held in conjunction with the NAYRC. In addition to his winning rides for Young Rider's he is also a United States Dressage Federation silver and bronze medalist and has numerous USDF year-end award wins.
His current top horse is Wolkensong (Wilson), a 1999 approved Oldenburg stallion by Wolkentanz II out of Rubina by Sandro Song that he purchased as a four-year-old in Germany. In 2008 Wilson competed at Prix St. George and Intermediare 1 culminating with a Reserve Advanced Champion title at the Blainville Summer Classic and Advanced Champion title at the CNE Classic. "Wilson is an absolute pet with a real desire to please," says Marcus. "He also has a great aptitude for piaffe and passage making him a real world class horse." The dynamic and stylish pair have set their sights on entering the Grand Prix ring next spring with an eye to competing at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
Given Marcus' birthplace one wouldn't be blamed for assuming he'd carry the flag for the United States. Fortunately for us, Marcus is aiming to be a Canadian citizen by the time WEG rolls around. His extensive show ring experience allows Marcus to pass his skills onto his students and he gets results! Under his guidance DMD clients have won classes, championships and awards. In addition to his expert coaching, his talent in the saddle makes him one of the most sought after trainers and riders for young horses in the country.

At mare performance tests in both 2006 and 2008, the 4 year old mares trained and ridden by Marcus were recognized as champions and both received elite mare status. One even scored a 9 for rideability! Training and showing young horses for breed certification is one of the many services open to horse owners and breeders looking for a competitive advantage. Outside of the dressage ring, his riding skills are also recognizable each year at the Elite Warmblood Sale held every October in Ontario.
Marcus, who has recently become a permanent resident of Canada, plans on becoming a Canadian citizen so he can represent his adopted country in international competition.
