October 2014

We all had a wonderful experience at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, France but are happy to be home. I am currently busy teaching and training at home as well as traveling regularly teaching clinics throughout North America. My next competition will be The Royal Winter Fair in downtown Toronto. Quickly after our return home from "The Royal" we will pack up all of our horses and dogs and make our way to Florida for the winter months where we currently have an opening in our training program. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. David

Happy Father's Day!! I'd like to not only recognize my father but also my good friend, the late Jon Costin, father of four. Last night I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Jon Costin Memorial Cup for winning the GP freestyle. Thank you Alicia Costin and Lesley Degroote.

I believe in Canadian Hockey they call it a hat trick. This weekend with my wonderful horses Chrevi's Capital and Don Kontes I was able to win the GP, the GPSpecial and the GPFreestyle. I'd like to first thank my amazing owner Deborah Miculinic Kinzinger as well as the sponsors of the GP divisions Leatherdale Farms!! I'd like to also thank my groom Alison Malatestinic who worked her butt off all weekend, Nicholas Fyffe for being perfect eyes on the ground, as well as the rest of the great support team and students that I have. Thank you!!

"We have now been home in Canada since May 1st and things haven't slowed down and don't look like they're going to in the near future. To see what I have been up to please take a look at my press page. Currently Nicholas and I still have limited openings for training. Please come visit us at the Rockwood CDI June 15-16 where we will both be showing some of our top horses. I can also be found teaching clinics in New Brunswick, British Columbia and Missouri over the next few months. At the moment I have two top 5 year olds for sale if anyone is looking for beautiful, talented, well trained horses with great temperaments. I look forward to spending the summer developing and showing all of the horses in training in Canada. Please check back here for more updates."

We have just finished competing in our European debut at the Hartpury CDI and have now been officially named to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team for Dressage. What a feeling!!!

If you would like to follow my journey approaching the Olympics please follow me on Twitter or friend me on Facebook for daily updates. You can find links at the top of this page.

For a brief synopsis... The Hartpury CDI was a huge success not only for myself but for all the Canadian riders!! With Chrevi's Capital I finished in 4th place in the Grand Prix that was won by world record holder and hopeful 2012 Olympic medalist Charlotte Dujardin riding Valegro. In the Olympic Grand Prix Special I moved up one slot to finish third, less than one percent behind the winning ride.

On the Monday immediately following the competition myself and the rest of the Canadian Olympic team headed over to Stratford Upon Avon where we will be based at the facility of Natalie Allen (natalieallen.com) right up until the games. I'll make sure to let you know how things are going here as our training camp continues. Until then...

It doesn't seem things will be slowing down for team David Marcus Dressage!! Normally I would start the news update with News. Not this time... There is so much to report on and so much still ahead that I thought before I get to the updates I would start with my Thank You's. As most are now aware I am ranked in the number two spot in Canada coming into the 2012 Games which means Chrevi's Capital and I will be heading over to England on the 24th. It has taken a team of great people surrounding me to assure the stars have all aligned for this to happen. To name only a small few I would like to firstly thank my parents for their unwavering support and love. Deborah Kinzinger Miculinic for her incredible generosity!! She has given me the opportunity to train and compete such high quality horses including Chrevi's Capital, Don Kontes and the youngsters we have coming up. Without her friendship and kindness I wouldn't be in the fortunate position that I am today. Nicholas Fyffe for believing in me even when I didn't believe in myself, helping me daily from the ground and for doing such an amazing job of taking care of everything on the home front in my absence. Robert Dover for being truly instrumental in my show ring success. He is an amazing trainer and has transformed my horse and I into the Olympians that we will soon become. All my staff at David Marcus Dressage, especially Alex Reid and Alanna O'Neil who will both spend time grooming for Capital in England. And not to forget all of my clients, friends and family.

Ok... Onto the news. My last update was about Milton which was a turning point for us in our Olympic Bid. To follow up on Milton we travelled the next weekend to the Kentucky Horse Park to compete in the Lexington CDI. Capital and I again swept both the Grand Prix and the Olympic Grand Prix Special. Not to go unmentioned Don Kontes (DK) had a personal best score in the Grand Prix and was 3rd on 68% in the GpKur. These results for Capital moved us into 2nd place and secured our placement to the team.

Now we are home from Blainville CDI which was the last opportunity for Canadians to get their scores for the Olympic Team. The official team announcement will be from Spruce Meadows July 5th. Unfortunately Capital was a bit tired from all his travels but nonetheless finished 4th in both the Grand Prix and Olympic Grand Prix Special. DK rose to the occasion and was 3rd. He felt world class. I can't even believe I'm lucky enough to have two such top horses!!

And lastly, Not to go without mention are the students who did so well in Blainville. Alex Reid won the FEI Young Rider Team test and the FEI Young Rider Freestyle. Kerry Houlahan and Ally Dunlop had great rides in the FEI Junior division staying in the ribbons and Maya Markowski won the open Prix St. Georges on Friday with a personal best score of 66%. Congrats!!

Well, next update will be from the other side of the pond. Wish us luck and stay tuned!!

May 20, 2012

I told you I would keep this updated so as promised... What a weekend, and it's not even over yet. My two Grand Prix horses Chrevi's Capital and Don Kontes, both owned by Deborah Kinzinger, were stellar this weekend. Capital made a clean sweep of the Grand Prix and Grand Prix special divisions with personal best scores in both. His score of 72.356 was also the highest score so far of any Canadian qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games... wow!! Who would have thought, and only five months after our first ever GP together. Don Kontes was also no slouch posting his personal bests in the GP, placing 4th with over 66% and doing his first GP Special ever receiving over 64%. Don't count him out, he's definitely a horse for the future.

On top of my horses doing so well, my students Ally Dunlop, Jonah Freedman, Kerry Houlahan have had lots of success so far this weekend in the FEI Junior division. My wonderful groom and student Alexandra Reid has also shined all weekend on her beautiful new horse VIP by Rousseau in the FEI Young Rider Division.

May 14, 2012

So much has happened in the almost year since my last news post. My two small tour horses Don Kontes and Chrevi's Capital have bumped up to Grand Prix and are now serious contendors in the race for the 2012 London Olympic Games. My students have been very successful competing nationally and internationally, I've taught many clinics, traveled numerous times to Europe horse shopping, had a very successful season competing in Florida this winter and am now looking forward to welcoming Nicholas Fyffe to David Marcus Dressage. Nicholas will be spending the summer training out of David Marcus Dressage. For more information check out his website at www.nicholasfyffedressage.com. It's been such a whirlwind and I apologize for not keeping this news page up to date. I'm going to be so much more diligent about this... I promise!! I encourage you to become my facebook friend or follow me on twitter and you will be able to keep track of everything we've been doing and everything we're going to be doing in the next months as we continue our bid for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Next two competitions will be Milton CDI May 18-20 and Lexington CDI May 25-27.

July 2009

Well I know I have been slow to update the website, but for good reason. We have been so extremely busy here at DMD and it is not going to slow down anytime soon. We have had had a few very succesful shows so far this season and are looking forward to more starting again at the Summer Festival at Palgrave July 17-19 followed by the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships to be held at the Kentucky Horse Park.

We had a very successful first show hosted by Kawartha Lakes Dressage Association at Saddlewood. DMD took 5 horses to this show. David had a successful show with Ribot in the 3rd level and Wenonah in the PSG. DMD student Andrea Martin competed with great success in the Young Rider division as did Amy Jager with both of her horses Jive and Key West. The highlight of the show must have been Amy's win in the Young Rider freestyle with an incredible score of 73%.

The next outing was the Springfest Dressage Show at Halton Place. David rode Fenix, owned by Leslie Degroote, and ended up with two top place finishes in the Prix St. Georges. Andrea Martin again showed her horse Optimist in the Advanced Young Rider division coming home with a reserve championship for her hard work this weekend.

Amy & Jive

June 5-7

DMD attended the Spring Into Dressage horse show at Palgrave, this time with 8 horses. David showed two horses for Carla Bahr, Ribot in the 3rd level division and Wenonah in the PSG division. Both horses had a very good horse show with many top placings and high scores. Kim Izzo brought her new horse Astaire for his first outing and ended up having a very succesful show coming home with the championship in the Starter Division. Michelle Filsinger competed her mare Debutante successfully in the 2nd level. Kathryn Martin competed for the first time with her horse Wilbur in the Amateur PSG division. She had a very successful weekend winning two firsts and one second and winning the Prix St. Georges Amateur division reserve championship. Andrea Martin picked up more qualifying scores for the North American Young Rider Championships on Optimist.

Amy Jager also acheived qualifying scores with her horses Jive and Key West
as well as the reserve championship with Jive in the FEI Advanced Young Rider
division. A great show for everyone!!!

And most recently, we just returned from a whirlwind two week long horse show in Blainville, Quebec. We competed in two national shows and two CDIs all in the span of these two weeks. DMD again brought Ribot, ridden by David. Ribot had a very succesful two weeks with scores up to 72% in the 3rd level and a 3rd level open championship. David also competed on Wenonah in the open PSG with scores as high as 70% and two advanced championships!! DMD student Andrea Martin again brought her horse Optimist to vye for a spot on the Ontario Advanced Young Rider team. Andrea had a very good show, but unfortunately was 00.125% away from qualifying. Another DMD student Amy Jager won the CDI Young Rider Freestyle with her number one horse Jive, and was FEI young rider reserve champion with her number two horse Key West.
